Key Person Approach!

Each child is allocated a key person when they start at Little Hearts Pre-school. The key person’s first role is to help settle the child into the group, getting to know both the child and their family. The key person works with the parents to plan and deliver a personalized plan for the child’s well-being, care, and learning. The key person is responsible for developmental records and for sharing information on a regular basis with the child’s parents.

The Progress Check at Age 2

This is carried out by the child’s key person when the child has reached the age of two. The child’s general progress and stage of development in communication and language, physical development and personal, social, and emotional development is recorded. The parents are invited to discuss the report and contribute suggestions of next steps.

Staffing Ratios

We maintain the ratio of adults to children in the setting that is set by the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements. 2-year-olds = 1 adult per 4 children, 3 years and above 1 adult per 8 children. We also have the Manager over and above the ratios, volunteers, and parent helpers, where possible, to complement these ratios.
